SCH, Africa Heart Association, Afrique Healthcare and Microlabs hold a Cardiac Camp in Sagam

Posted by on Feb 17, 2014 in Events, Recent News | 0 comments

On Saturday, February 15th, Sagam Community Hospital held a Cardiac Camp in collaboration with the Africa Heart Association, Afrique Healthcare and Microlabs. The purpose of the camp was to offer free heart screenings with electrocardiograms and echocardiograms for the local community. The incidence of heart disease has been steadily increasing all over the developing world, including in Kenya. The fact that people living in the rural area have little or no access to cardiologists (either because of cost or distance) further compounds the problem. This camp was the first step in a partnership to help bring these desperately needed services to the rural community of Sagam. In addition, it fell in line with the goal of SCH, the Africa Heart Association and Microlabs, which is a pharmaceutical company from India which offers free hypertensive and diabetic medication. SCH is exploring the use of telemedicine for cardiac consults for patients and will focus on  staff at SCH continuing their training with ECGs to expand these services to a much larger population. It was an extremely successful day for all involved! Please visit our Flickr page for more photos....
