Siaya County Officials Visit SCH

Left to Right: Dr. Khama Rogo (SCH Founder), Mr. Nelson Rogo (Chairman of the SCH Board of Directors), Dr.Edward Owila (Siaya County Executive Member for Health), Dr. Walter Obita (SCH General Manager) and Dr. Omondi Owino (Siaya County Director for Health). On Thursday, September 18, 2014, SCH staff were honoured to welcome Dr. Edward Owila, the Siaya County Executive Member for Health, and Dr. Omondi Owino, the Siaya County Director for Health, to hold a discussion on strengthening the partnership between the hospital and Siaya County in the provision of quality health care. In particular, there was a discussion on the need for mutual support in training of medical personnel as part of a joint Continuous Medical Education (CME) strategy, strengthening the referral system between all institutions, and coordinating efforts in community health outreach and research initiatives. Furthermore, it was concluded that the most logical method to improve healthcare in the region and beyond is through Public-private partnerships (PPPs). The two parties pledged to formalize their partnership and set a time-table for the completion of necessary support documents towards this endeavor. In addition to the meeting, the County Officials were also given a tour of the hospital, including the new emergency wing that is currently under construction. SIAYA COUNTY MP VISITS SCH

Sagam Hospital welcomed Siaya County MP, Hon. Dr. Christine Oduor Ombaka, who paid a courtesy visit to check on the progress of the hospital since her last visit and also to officially welcome the students to Siaya county. She was accompanied by a renowned lawyer, Ms. Pamela Odima, who is also a human rights and gender violence advocate and a trainer. Pamela has great interest in the setting up of the Gender Violence and Recovery Centre at the facility which we are trying to be an independent department in the hospital.  During her visit she was received by Prof. Khama Rogo, SCH Founder, Prof. Thomas Burke, Chief of the Division of Global Health at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Walter Obita, General Manager of Sagam Community Hospital, Debora Rogo and Benson Sewe, the SCH Executive Officer.  She was very happy with the progress which has been made and encouraged the students and pledged her support for the hospital....

SCH Launches its Post-Graduate Training Programme in Family and Emergency Medicine

SCH, in collaboration with Maseno University and Massachusetts General Hospital, has officially launched its Post-Graduate Trainine Programme in Family and Emergency Medicine. The programme, the first of its kind on the African continent, welcomed its first intake of 4 students: Dr. David Shivachi Ikura, Dr. Annette Amodni Metho, Dr. Charles Ocholo Olelo and Dr. David Wanikina Muke. Photo caption: During the opening ceremony and lectures held on September 16, 2014 Dr. Kaguthi provided the trainees with a lecture on the Introduction to Family Medicine followed by an overview by the MGH Fellows on the structure of the programme including their work plan, schedule and expectations. Dr. Rogo then gave a few words of inspiration as he challenged the doctors to be part of a new movement towards improving health care in the region. Dr. Burke also provided a few words on creating an enthusiasm towards excellence and towards breaking new frontiers.This was followed by a full tour of the hospital’s facilities including its new wing for emergency care currently under construction. SCH SIGNS A CONTRACT WITH NAIROBI CITY WATER AND SEWERAGE COMPANY

   Sagam Community Hospital has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nairobi City and Sewerage Company. This was done when a high powered delegation from Nairobi Water visited the facility for inspection to ascertain whether they can partner with the hospital. This partnership will see the staffs and their declared dependents of Nairobi City and Sewerage Company all over the country treated at Sagam Community Hospital . This will be in line with hospital policy of bringing in more Corporate clients as we maintain the traditional loyal individual clients who have supported us over the years. This is being done to sustain the massive investments that are put in and also to increase the number of people benefiting from the quality of care which is currently provided at the facility. The visitors had a brief meeting with management including the General Manager, Dr Walter .O. Obita and the Executive Officer, Benson Sewe Otieno. They were thereafter taken through the hospital tour by the Executive Officer. They were impressed with the facilities more so the upcoming Accident and Emergency Center, the new E-Learning Unit, Resident Consultants and other facilities and equipments in the hospital and the general cleanliness of the hospital.
