Updates continue on the new Emergency Department

As we move closer to the opening of our new Emergency Department, the entire Sagam Community Hospital (SCH) Staff is working hard on some last minute updates! Dan, MGH Coordinator and SCH Emergency Operations Manager, works with Omondi, SCH’s electrician, to check the height and wiring of the x-ray boxes. Hewa Tele, the Oxygen Manufacturing Plant at Siaya County Referral Hospital, delivered the rest of SCH’s supply of oxygen regulators and humidifiers for use in the new piped oxygen system that will soon be up and running. Hewa Tele will be running a training for staff on maintenance and use of the oxygen and will be used throughout the hospital, including the ward, operating theaters, emergency wing and the private/semi-private wing. Guest Lecturer Dr. Alwar visits Sagam

For the second time this week, our FEM Residents have had the pleasure of a guest lecturer to enhance their weekly didactics. Today, Dr. A. J. E. Alwar, an expert in paediatrics and child health, visited Sagam Community Hospital to give a presentation on ‘Prioritization of programs and services for family health in the phase of rapidly epidemiological transition’. Currently, Dr. Alwar holds many roles including Dean of Faculty of Health Science at the Great Lakes University of Kisumu. In addition, Dr. Alwar serves as a health programme development consultant in Health Policy and Planning, Health System Development, HIV/AIDS Programming, Integrated Management of Childhood Illness and Maternal Health Programming, and Professor of Public Health at the Great Lakes University of Kisumu.
