On behalf of Sagam Community Hospital’s board, management, staff and patients, we wish to thank Mr. David Dixon and Mrs. Terri Dixon for their contribution they made towards the construction of our upcoming Imaging Centre. Their contribution will help lay the groundwork and foundation for a state-of-the-art Imaging Centre that will provide Computerized Tomography (CT) Scans (which will establish SCH as the only institution in Siaya County with CT Scan services), digital x-rays and other imaging needs. Once again, we thank the Dixon family for the support towards promoting quality and affordable care for our community and beyond. Asante...

Donation of Newborn Kits from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, California.

Last week SCH received a very generous donation of newborn kits from two congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in La Canada, California. Women, ages 12 and up from the congregations were able to assemble and ship 52 newborn kits to SCH. The newborn kits each included: a handmade flannel receiving blanket, 4 cloth diapers and diaper pins, 2 bars ivory soap, a layette gown, and a pair of baby socks. (Pictured: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints assembling the new born kits.) One of the purposes of the church’s women’s organization, called the Relief Society, is to work in unity to help those in need. The members of the church often look for ways to provide opportunities for their congregation to serve where there might be a need. There have already been several mothers at SCH who have received and utilized these newborn kits. SCH is very grateful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for their donation and support. (Pictured: Matron Elizabeth pictured with a mother, newborn baby, and the newborn...

SCH Earns Top Honors as Hypertension Facility at Nairobi Conference

Posted by on Jun 16, 2016 in Recent News | 0 comments

Brenda Adhiambo Ochieng and Brillian Ngati Ongaya, a nurse and a clinician at SCH, recently attended a conference in Nairobi. The conference was hosted by the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) as a part of their Healthy Heart Africa programme in collaboration with AstraZeneca. They met to discuss management of hypertension clients in various facilities, along with ten other hospitals that collaborate with CHAK. Sagam was praised at the conference as the best of all facilities in their management of hypertension in patients. Sagam has 15 Community Health Volunteers that work on the ground to screen clients. Much of the good work that Sagam does is due to its outreaches in nearby villages and we also get many of our clients from our outpatient clinic. This area of our hospital has a non-communicable disease clinic on Thursdays which gives free tea to clients who visit! With 1,182 clients, Sagam was the best identifier of new hypertensive clients at the conference! If our hospital is able to keep up the good work, it will receive funds from CHAK in the next 2 years. Congratulations to Brillian, Brenda, and all at SCH who have helped us to be one of the top facilities for hypertensive...

Sagam Clinicians Accepted for Publication

Posted by on Jun 13, 2016 in AIHT, Board, Partners, Recent News | 0 comments

Mr. Javan Imbamba and Ms. Stella Odenyo, two clinical officers at Sagam Community Hospital, were accepted for publication into the International Journal of Emergency Medicine this week. They worked in collaboration with Dr. Karla Fredricks and others from Massachusetts General Hospital. This is a tremendous accomplishment in medicine, as it is a highly competitive journal with academic centers from all around the world publishing here. Their research focused around a ketamine-based sedation and anesthesia package for non-anesthetists. Studies such as this will allow anesthesia to be available in situations that would otherwise result in significant delays to procedures or proceeding with painful procedures with inadequate analgesia. Our most sincere congratulations to everyone involved! Thank you to Mr. Imbamba and Ms. Odenyo for leading Sagam as we explore new frontiers in...
