Posted by on Nov 25, 2016 in Events, Partners, Recent News | 0 comments

SCH recently welcomed representatives from the Ministry of Health, Homa Bay and Kisumu Counties who come to observe the implementation of the Healthy Hearts Africa (HHA) programme that is being supported by AstraZeneca , Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) and Mission for Essential Drugs & Supplies (MEDS). This field visit was part of a 5-day training programme by HHA as they seek to implement the same programme across Kenya. As part of their visit, they went through the patient pathway at Sagam (starting from outreaches, to the Emergency Room and then to the NCD clinic) and then took part in a plenary session with SCH staff and community health workers to learn more about how the implementation has been going. Many thanks to Beth at AstraZeneca and Geoffrey at CHAK for bringing the participants to SCH. In addition, we would like to thank our staff that participated in receiving the team. We aim to continue strengthening our implementation for this project to ensure our communities are gaining as much as possible from the free blood pressure checks and subsidized...

Another week at SCH means we held another eventful outreach. This time we headed to Kachola, where the SCH outreach team set up at Rawa ACK Church. This week we were joined by a team from Global Good Fund – Global Health Technologies, that came to observe our outreach team’s use of the Mobile ODT device in cervical cancer screening. We thank Ms. Noni Gachuhi and Mr. Matt Horning for their visit as well as Ms. Rose Ndinda of Mobile ODT for arranging for their visit.   We were able to screen 15 patients for cervical cancer, provide family planning to 22 patients (including short-term methods, LARC removal and LARC insertion), blood pressure monitoring for 83 patients, provide child welfare services to 12 paediatric patients and HTC counseling to 42 patients. In addition, we provided forums on enrolling in NHIF and the M-TIBA platform. We are grateful to our outreach team for their hard work and the services they are offering to members of our...

This week our team went to Kisumu county for a new outreach! This time, we didn’t go to a school, but we went to a little village. There was a lot of music in the village and people, young and old, were dancing around which made the atmosphere very pleasant. The Mtiba team joined us again this week, and we also did the usual procedures including cervical cancer screening with the Mobile ODT, HIV testing, Child health and immunization and family planning. This week, the new OB/gyn fellow Kemi did the cervical cancer screening, and she was very content about using the mobile ODT. We brought some balloons for the children to play with, and, as you can see on the pictures, that made it a very colourful day for all of us! Once again, we are very grateful that we are able to bring healthcare to small places like this and we are looking forward to doing another outreach next...
