SAGAM HOSPITAL AND AIHT AT THE JOOUST FIFTH ANNUAL DISABILITY DAY

Sagam Community Hospital and AIHT were represented in the fifth annual disability day which was held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. The event was grazed by the entire Parliamentary Committee of Labour and Social Welfare led by the Chairman Hon Ali Wario who is the MP for Bura, Hon Catherine Wambilanga Nanjala, Member of Parliament Bungoma County, Hon Tom Mboya Odege Member for Nyatike Constituency, Hon James Onyango Oyoo member for Muhoroni Constituency, Hon Ronald Kiprotich Tonui member for Bomet Central, Hon Michael Mwangi Muchira member for Ol Jorok, Hon Janet Marania Teyiaa Kajiado County MP,Hon David Sankok nominated MP among many others. The partners were Sabatia Eye Hospital, Red Cross, learning institutions dealing with physically challenged, Sagam Community Hospital, Rotary Club of Sagam among many others. HON DR CHRISTINE OMBAKA HOSTS GENDER BASED VIOLENCE SENSITIZATION AT AIHT

On 22ND January 2019 Hon Dr Christine Ombaka the Siaya County MP conducted a sensitization workshop on Gender Based Violence (GBV) atSagam Community Hospital. It was to creat awareness on the rights of every member of the community so as to become active in the prevention of the vice. Victims of GBV must be protected and papetrators brought to book. . AIHT was represented this week in a high level visit to Ilorin, Kwara State in Nigeria. The combined delegation of PharmAccess and the World Bank was warmly received by H.E Alhaji Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, Executive Governor of Kwara State. Prof Pankaj Jani and his loving spouse, Dr (Mrs) J. Jani, today donated an assortment of highly valued Surgical and laparoscopic training instruments. Presenting the equipment, the Janis commended Sagam Community Hospital for their vision and commitment to high quality training, research and care for the under privileged in rural Kenya.The Sagam model is one of the most innovative and transformative approaches in this part of the world. We have followed the growth of this vision for many years and are proud to be associated with its pursuit for excellence’, said Prof Jani. We need to see many more home grown innovations in Kenya and the region to accelerate the attainment of Universal Coverage. There is a vast need for rural based facilities because that is where most of the population with the biggest needs reside. We, as a family and professional colleagues, are delighted to give this modest contribution. We are proud to be associated with Sagam and will continue to give our unqualified support’, added Dr Jani.The equipment was received, on behalf of the hospital, by Khama Rogo, the Founder. Dr Rogo thanked the Janis for their generosity and many years of close friendship.The hospital is currently handling ALL emergencies in Siaya County and beyond, forcing us to run all three theatres 24/7′, Khama explained.Some of the equipment will be used in the new Surgical Skills and Simulation Center being established at Sagam, in anticipation of planned specialist training. Pankaj and Khama have been friends and colleagues since 1973, when they joined the Medical School, University of Nairobi.They have worked together ever since and have recently joined forces to drive the establishment of The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and East, Central and Southern African College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ECSAOG). Sagam Hospital is an accredited internship training center and is already offering specialist training (MMed) in Family and Emergency Medicine, in collaboration with Maseno and MGH/Harvard Universities.
