Between January 20th and 21st, 2014, the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) held its 5th Semi-Annual East Africa Collaborative Scientific Meeting (click here for more details) in Kisumu, Kenya.
Two of our fellows (Dr. Vikram Palanivel (Internal Medicine Fellow) and Dr. Leah Miller (OB/GYN Fellow)) together with one resident doctor at SCH (Dr. Rashmi Sharma) were able to attend the conference. There was a workshop on Monday about cost effectiveness, and our OB/GYN fellow worked on a model for Sagam Hospital for screening cervical cancer. On Tuesday, there were breakout sessions about healthcare systems, NCD, and non-HIV infectious diseases, and our Internal Medicine fellow attended this session.
They were able to make connections with researchers that are working with UCSF and hope to collaborate and work together to provide the best care possible for the community we are serving.
