On Saturday, February 25, 2017 Dr. Jennifer Makin, a fellow from the Division of Global Health and Human Rights assisted Dr. Greggory Ganda, a Kenyan Gynaecological Oncologist in the first radical hysterectomy at Sagam Community Hospital. With the expertise of Dr. Ganda and Dr. Makin, the surgery was successfully completed with no complications for a total time of 3 hours and 20 minutes. In addition, our lab secured six units of blood for this patient. Although this is a short story for Sagam’s blog this week, it shows the increase in expertise seen at this hospital through partnerships and utilizing local resources.
