On Tuesday, June 28, 2016, Sagam Community Hospital (SCH) and Uzima University (Uzima) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes a joint collaboration between the two institutions to mutually offer attachments/placements for Uzima medical students at SCH. This partnership will support SCH’s mission towards the provision of affordable and accessible healthcare to the surrounding community.
The Uzima University team was represented by Rev. Fr. Dr. Cosmas R. K’Otienoh (who served as signatory), the Principal at Uzima University, Mr. Joseph Okal, the Deputy Principal – Administration, Finance & Planning, Professor Richard Muga, the Deputy Principal – Academic, Rev. Fr. Caroly Achok, the Registrar – Administration and Academic, Professor Chris Oyoo, Dean of the School of Medicine and Ms. Lillian Aloo, HRM and Administrative Assistant. SCH was represented by Mr. Nelson Rogo, the Chairman of the Board of Governors at SCH, Ms. Debora Rogo, SCH General Manager (who signed on behalf of SCH), Mr. Benson Sewe, the Executive Officer and Mr. Erick Magambo, SCH Public Liaison Officer.
Key remarks by Professor Muga focused on the importance of SCH as a key institution in providing health services and other interventions at the community level. He further noted that the collaboration will provide students with clinical experience at the community level. Ms. Rogo provided a summary of SCH and the work it is doing in the area of clinical services, research and education. Further discussions were held on the rotations and supervision of the students.
After these discussions, Ms. Rogo provided a tour of SCH facilities before the official signing of the MOU.
SCH looks forward to the collaboration with Uzima towards strengthening medical education and research.
