M-TIBA, a collaboration between Safaricom, Pharmaccess, UAP Insurance, Old Mutual and CarePay, is a mobile platform that allows patients to save money for healthcare (i.e. a health pocket). According to the M-TIBA website, “funds stored in M-TIBA can only be used to pay for services and medication at specific healthcare facilities which carry the M-TIBA logo. You can transfer funds from your M-PESA to your M-TIBA. Funds stored in M-TIBA are managed by UAP insurance.”

If a patient deposits at least 100 Kenya shillings, they receive a top-up amount of 50 Kenya Shillings. In addition, when a patient registers, you receive accidental death cover from UAP as part of the package.

This innovative platform is important as it creates a way for members of the public to save for health and improve access to healthcare.

SCH looks forward to rolling out of this platform and are proud to be a M-TIBA site!
