On December 25, 2014, a Transline bus ferrying passengers from Nairobi to Siaya was involved in an accident. It reversed then rolled several times and landed 100 meters deep from the main road. According to Capital FM News, there were 52 passengers on the bus and 46 suffered injuries and were treated at SCH, Siaya County Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (“JOORTH”).
Sagam Community Hospital crew rushed to the scene and evacuated patients to the hospital with the ambulance and a private car. SCH also received ambulance assistance from Siaya County Hospital and Yala Hospital. A total of twenty eight (28) patients were admitted to SCH (13 children, 7 adult females and 8 adult males). After this, SCH transferred two (2) patients to JOORTH; one adult female who had suffered an open wrist fracture that needed to be operated on immediately (she also requested that her child be (with soft tissue damage) transferred with her as well).
